Fiona Beal,

PD in your PJs: Learning from your Personal Learning Network (PLN) Can Take Place

Anytime

Sometimes as educators we continue in our same old ruts, doing things the way we always did while our learners are living in a digital world! Teachers can enter this digital world and find a whole host of new virtual friends who are doing amazing things in their classrooms, and are happy to share their findings. This can do wonders for getting our creative juices flowing and transforming our classroom practice. This presentation will show you how to create your own PLN and keep a record of what you are learning so that it is easily accessible. It looks at examples of collaboration platforms such as Windows Live, Ning, Video channels, Twitter and Facebook groups among others that keep teachers in touch, sharing amazing ideas. It also looks at online conferencing as a way of keeping up with new ideas.

Reading, Writing and Web 2.0 Make a Great Team

In this interactive Web 2.0 digital age that we live in there are ways of tapping into reading and writing resources that make literacy come alive to our learners. This presentation takes a look at ways of using PowerPoint combined with Web 2.0 technologies to create e-books; Web 2.0 book creation sites, the use of online circle stories to promote reading and writing; reading sites on the web to stimulate reading and the knowledge of books; book reviews with a difference; poetry-writing sites and story starter sites to enhance creative writing … and many more ideas

Teaching in the Era of Collaboration - Linking Your Class to the World

Have you ever wanted to link what you are doing in class with other classes locally or globally? How do you go about it? The new Web 2.0 technologies make this an exciting reality. This workshop looks at some of the many online ways of collaborating on a project using technologies such as Skype, Thinkquest, Voicethreads, Glogsters, Windows Live, video-sharing, Google applications, Blogs, Wikis … to name just a few. It shows examples of projects that have been done using these technologies, and shows ways of finding virtual partners to join you

A classroom blog and a classroom wiki? Show me!

A classroom blog has become a way of life for many teachers world-wide and it is an amazing way of showcasing your classroom practice to the parent body and the world! Add to this a classroom wiki and you can attach actual documents and really collaborate and edit each other’s work. The two together make a formidable team. Best of all they are free! In this presentation you will look at a number of inspiring classroom blogs and wikis on the internet. You will be shown how to write a post in a blog and edit a page in a wiki. Detailed step-by-step notes will be provided to put you well on the way to implementing both blog and wiki in your classroom on your return to school.
