Wiki What? A Practical Introduction to Building Wikis for Teaching and Learning

A wiki is a website that permits joint authorship and editing of content—a powerful collaboration tool for learners, teachers, and administrators. This workshop focuses on helping teachers and learners utilize wikis to effectively collaborate and learn, as well as showcase work for a global audience. We will look at how wikis have evolved to include inspirational examples of teacher and learner wikis. Participants will create a wiki they can use and develop after the session. The session will leave you inspired to take the next steps with educational wikis, whether you’re exploring wikis for the first time, wanting to implement new best practices, or ready to innovate and lead the way.

The Science of PowerPoint

You will explore developing dynamic PowerPoint presentations based on effective

instructional design principles. You will actively participate in critiquing the many

pitfalls of PowerPoint presentations. You will gain a better understanding of how to effectively use PowerPoint for you own presentations, and how to teach learners to create thoughtfully designed presentations. You have the option of bringing your own PowerPoint presentation to work on.
