Overcoming ICT Challenges: School-Based Solutions
ICTs present an array of new challenges for school managers and teachers. UCT’s Schools Development Unit has worked with local schools to form school-based technology committees to overcome the barriers to effective ICT integration. After briefly identifying these barriers, we will explain a step-by-step process to develop a school vision to guide ICT implementation; to set five-year ICT goals; and to establish strategies and objectives to achieve those goals. This process has encouraged staff and school management to collaborate on problem-solving and empowered schools to take charge of technology-related issues. Workshop participants will receive guidance on how to start the process at their school and will hear from school technology committee members who have developed plans and are now implementing those plans.
